Neil Redfearn has urged Leeds United to secure Lewis Cook's future at the club after hailing the midfielder as the best player on the pitch during his side's 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest today.

Matty Fryatt fired Forest into the lead on the stroke of half time, however Leeds drew level in the 54th minute when Sam Byram was brought down in the box and Billy Sharp converted the resultant spot-kick.

The game ended 1-1, but Forest were left feeling hard done by after Fryatt had two efforts ruled out for offside, one particularly harshly.

Redfearn was pleased with his side and none more so than Cook, who he quickly praised to LUTV post-match.

"I look at Lewis Cook today, 17 years old, and he was the best player on the pitch by a mile", he explained.

Asked whether Cook's future will be secured at the club with a new deal, amid suggestions other sides are looking at him, Redfearn was clear of the importance of keeping the midfielder.

"It [his future] needs to be [sorted] because he's one of ours.

"He wants to play for Leeds United. That's all he's known.

"He's a massive influence on us and how we play, even at the tender age of 17.

"He's got this strength of character and he's getting better and better", Redfearn added.
