Sam Allardyce believes West Ham sitting fourth in the Premier League at Christmas is the perfect present for the club's fans after his side saw off Leicester 2-0 today at Upton Park.

West Ham took the lead in the 24th minute when Andy Carroll hit a left-footed shot into the back of the net, the hosts going 1-0 ahead.

A second goal arrived in the second half, Stewart Downing getting onto the end of a headed pass from Diafra Sakho to finish in the 55th minute.

2-0 was how it finished and the Hammers sit fourth in the Premier League on 31 points, a position they will still hold on Christmas Day.

And that, for Allardyce, is the perfect present for the club's supporters.

"Being fourth in the Premier League is a great Christmas present for everybody at West Ham. Having 31 points before Christmas is a pretty major achievement for us", he was quoted as saying by the BBC.

Allardyce also stated his belief that West Ham deserved the win, saying: "There is no doubt we deserved to win with the quality finishes from Andy Carroll and Stewart Downing.

"Stewart is one of the best attacking players in the Premier League with the way he is playing, and he is getting goals on the back of that.

"It is a very big win for us before we have Chelsea next."
