Aston Villa goalkeeper Brad Guzan admits that his side changed their system to counter Manchester United at Villa Park today.

The home side took the lead when Christian Benteke curled in a superbly hit shot in the 18th minute, though could not hang on for victory, with Radamel Falcao drawing Manchester United level in the second half.

Nevertheless, Aston Villa looked dangerous throughout and actively allowed Manchester United to have much of the ball, matching them man for man and then breaking at speed.

For Guzan, whose side still looked dangerous even after being reduced to ten men in the 65th minute, the plan clearly worked.

Guzan told BBC Radio 5 live: "We knew it would be difficult from the start and especially as we went up 1-0 we knew the second half would present a difficult task.

"We changed our system a little bit and they found it hard to break us down.

"I didn't have too much to do, which is credit to the guys in front of me.

"I think more important was the way we reacted to it [the sending off] and we found a way to grind out a result."
