Celtic legend Murdo MacLeod has hit out at Arsenal target Virgil van Dijk, accusing the defender of playing only for himself.

The Bhoys went down to a 2-1 defeat away at Dundee United in Scottish Premiership action earlier today and MacLeod was disappointed with the defensive display Ronny Deila's men put up.

The former midfielder believes Celtic's defence do not operate as a unit, while he reserved particularly scathing criticism for Van Dijk, who has been linked with moving to Arsenal next month.

MacLeod told BBC Radio Scotland: "As we have seen this season in Europe, Celtic's back four don't operate as a unit.

The Dutch defender has been praised for his performances at Celtic since joining the club from Dutch outfit FC Groningen in the summer of 2013, being regularly linked with a move to the Premier League as a result.
