Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker was not pleased with his side’s performance against Liverpool yesterday at Anfield.

Martin Skrtel rose to meet Adam Lallana’s corner in the 97th minute to earn a point for the Reds and Gunners lost two vital points.

Both teams scored on the stroke of half-time and Olivier Giroud’s 64th minute strike was set to win all three points for Arsenal before a heavily-bandaged Skrtel intervened to level the scoring in the 97th minute.

Mertesacker was disappointed with Arsenal’s performance as he believes they never really dominated the game and feels that the Gunners are capable of playing much better football.

“Overall we have to take responsibility for our game”, the German defender told the club’s official site.

“We want to dictate, but we were on always on the back foot. I’m not really pleased with the performance, but we take the point now and we’re looking forward to December 26.

“We have to dig in now and try to beat QPR. When you compare [the 2-2 draw] to last year, this is a much better result, but I’m not very pleased with our performance.

"We can do much better and we have to find it.”

Liverpool move up to 10th in the league table and Arsenal remained sixth, four points off fourth placed West Ham.
