Jose Mourinho believes that Chelsea produced a fantastic performance to come through a tricky game away at Stoke City tonight to win 2-0.

The Premier League leaders wasted no time in taking the lead against Stoke, with John Terry scoring in just the second minute.

Chelsea quickly began to dominate the game, but could not add to their tally before half-time.

Indeed, the Blues needed to wait until the 78th minute to score their second when Cesc Fabregas hit a scuffed shot in the penalty area, which found its way into the corner of the net.

The Blues continued to control the match and closed out the game, going three points ahead of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League.

"I think it was a fantastic performance. These are the matches when the victory means a bit more than the three points", Mourinho told Sky Sports.

"It means three points, but also it means to feel the team, the atmosphere, what the players are ready to do to win the championship.

"We kept very good control of the game. [Thibaut] Courtois had a couple of difficult saves, but we had the game under control against a very difficult team.

"I don't think [having won the league the last three times my Chelsea teams have been top at Christmas] is important. What we did in the past is not important.

"This season we have been top of the league since day one and we are there because we are playing really well.

"We were the best team until now and that is why we are top of the league."
