Jose Mourinho has insisted that he doesn’t owe any of the Chelsea players an explanation for his decisions at the club.

Chelsea have been leading the Premier League table since the first game of their season and are on equal on points with Manchester City at the top, having played a game less.

Despite their scintillating form, there have been a few players who have rarely played in the league this term.

Thibaut Courtois has replaced Petr Cech as Chelsea’s first choice goalkeeper and the veteran custodian has made only two league appearances this season.

It is believed Cech is not happy with his status at Chelsea and might be inclined to make a move in January or next summer.

But Mourinho is unfazed by the situation. He has stressed that he is responsible for making the decisions at Stamford Bride, but he is not ready to start explaining himself to each player.

He added that his players are aware that his decisions are made for the good of the team and not because of his personal equations with certain individuals at Chelsea.

“I put the team up”, Mourinho told the club’s official site.

“I don’t explain it because it's my decision and the players may not be happy with the decision, or not agree with the decision, but they know my decision is not to favour somebody or to punish somebody.

“It's what I think is best for the team at a certain moment. This is the way I do it.

“It's one of the first things I say to a squad at the beginning of the season: I don't give explanations to players unless they ask me for one.

“If they come to me and ask me to explain, no problem. But, in principle, I don't explain things.

“I have to make life easy for me. If I explain to one, I have to give them all explanations. At Christmas I'd spend all my time explaining things.”
