Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas would welcome Barcelona’s talisman Lionel Messi if Jose Mourinho brought him to Stamford Bridge.

Fabregas and Messi were part of the same youth teams while growing up in Barcelona’s famed youth academy, La Masia, and developed a close friendship as a result. Fabregas left for Arsenal in 2003 before returning to Barcelona in 2011.

The Spain international couldn’t live up to the expectations at his childhood club and signed for Chelsea at the start of the current season, where he has enjoyed a rich vein of form.

In the current season, Fabregas has provided a league leading 11 assists and scored a solitary goal in the Premier League in order to become an integral member of Mourinho’s team.

In an interview with Radio Marca, on the topic of reuniting with the Argentine maestro, he said: "I wish! Why not? I'd love that to happen. I'd be all for it.”

But at the same time he acknowledged Messi’s standing at the Catalan club, saying: “As a Barca man, I believe that Messi deserves to retire at Barca for all that he has given the club. He is a legend that has changed Barca history.

“But, as his team-mate and friend, without doubt I'd love to have Leo by my side. This season Barca are Messi and ten others. Messi has saved his team on many occasions", he further added.

Fabregas will look to continue his stellar form when they take on Stoke City tonight at the Britannia Stadium.
