Leeds United striker Billy Sharp has expressed his delight at being handed his first start for the team after a frustrating two months.

Sharp's first start for the Peacocks since September ended on a positive note for his team, as Neil Redfearn's side held Nottingham Forest to a 1-1 draw, to register their first point in three matches.

It was in fact Sharp's 13th appearance for Leeds in the 22 league matches that the team have played so far.

And the occasion was made even more special by the 28-year-old's first goal of the season, as he scored from the spot to get his team back into the match after Matty Fryatt had put the hosts in the lead in the 46th minute.

"It was tough but I was delighted that I started the game", Sharp told his club's official site.

"It was good to get out and do battle against one of my former teams and it was a bonus to get a goal as well."

The former Southampton player also took time to speak about the period that he had been out, insisting that the phase was indeed "frustrating".

"It’s been very frustrating. We’ve had a few managers and I got injured in between.

"I’m at a stage now where I want to play every week. It has been frustrating but, in patches, the lads have done really well.

"I’m thankful and happy that I started on Saturday. I enjoyed being out there.

"I’m a striker. I’m selfish in a way. I’m a team player but I wanted the penalty and I was just happy to see it hit the back of the net."
