Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos has hinted towards a contract renewal after scoring in yet another final following his heroics in the Champions League.

The Spain international scored the opening goal of the Club World Cup final against San Lorenzo this Saturday as the Europeans defeated the South Americans 2-0.

Ramos has a knack of scoring important goals; in the away leg of the Champions League semi-final against Bayern Munich, he converted two headers. The 28-year-old followed that up with a stoppage time header in the final against Atletico Madrid, a match which Real Madrid ultimately won in extra time.

Talking to the media after the final whistle, emphasising his importance to the team, he said: “I have always been a player who has liked scoring goals and players who are worth good money are worth that because of their goals.”

The feisty defender, whose current contract last renewed in 2011, and lasts until 2017, is looking for an improved one.

Highlighting his importance to the team, club president Florentino Perez has been quoted as saying by AS“I have never had a clash with Ramos about his renewal and people even say he’s like my star child. Ramos is a Madridista and, as with Pepe, he will stay here.”

Real Madrid will look to extend their lead when La Liga action resumes after the winter break.
