Former Barcelona forward David Villa has backed current club manager Luis Enrique to succeed in his post.

The forward, who moved from Valencia to Barcelona in the summer of 2010, scored 48 goals and provided 23 assists in his 119 appearances for the club. He won several major trophies during his three-year stay, including the Champions League in 2011.

The 33-year-old is set to play for New York City when the new MLS season begins.

Talking about the current Barcelona manager Enrique, Villa was quoted as saying by AS: “[Enrique] is totally prepared for the job – he knows the club inside out; for all of the experience he gained after he left to begin his coaching career.

“He is perfectly capable of gaining success and I hope he and Barca do have a great 2015”, he further added.

Speaking about Enrique’s elevated status at the club where he played for eight years, Villa added: “Everybody in Barcelona adores him; he has the right grounding as a coach and the right players in the squad”.

Enrique’s team will look to gain all three points against Real Sociedad, when league action resumes in January.
