Benfica midfielder Enzo Perez, who has been linked with Manchester United in recent months, has admitted he would love to sign for Valencia.

Perez is expected to be the subject of significant attention when the transfer window swings back open in a week's time and Benfica are braced for bids to arrive.

The Argentine schemer is wanted by Valencia, whose owner Peter Lim has spent time in Portugal trying to put together a deal.

Lim is thought to have sped up his activities amid interest in Perez from Manchester United.

And Valencia have been given a boost after Perez admitted he would be honoured to turn out at the Mestalla.

Speaking on Argentina's Canal Siete, he said: "Of course I would go there [to Valencia].

"It's a very important club in Europe."

Perez though was keen not to go into details over an impending transfer out of respect for Benfica.

"I do not like to talk about another club because I represent Benfica.

"Nothing has been confirmed, although there have been many things in the media."

The midfielder, who was voted the Portuguese Primeira Liga's Player of the Year last season, is however clear that he would quickly head to Valencia if an agreement was reached between the two clubs.

"I have a contract with Benfica which runs until 2018.

"If Benfica and Valencia reach an agreement, I will terminate it in order to sign the new contract."
