Javier Manquillo has stressed that joining Liverpool in the summer was an easy decision for him to make as he always wanted to play for a big club.

The 20-year-old Spaniard arrived at Anfield from Atletico Madrid in August on a two-year loan deal and has so far made 15 appearances for Liverpool.

Though the Reds have struggled this season, Manquillo’s enthusiasm for the game and his willingness to work hard has quickly made him a fan favourite at the club.

Several top European clubs did show interest in the Spanish Under-21 right-back in the summer, but Manquillo insisted that he had no doubts in his mind when he chose Liverpool.

He also stated that playing for a big European side was always the logical step in his career as he believes a club of Liverpool’s stature will only help him to grow as a footballer.

"I was flattered by interest from other teams, but when the Liverpool offer came through, I had no doubts”, the full-back told Marca.

“It was the best option, the one that appealed to me the most.

"All players want to play for the best teams and I think that anyone else in my boots would've made the same decision.

"Joining a big club like Liverpool didn't frighten me. It's a decision that can only help me improve as a player, which is what this is all about."
