West Ham boss Sam Allardyce admits his side did not do enough to compete with Chelsea today at Stamford Bridge after they went down to a 2-0 defeat.

Allardyce watched on as Chelsea soon bossed the Premier League fixture and duly took the lead in the 31st minute when John Terry helped the ball home following a Diego Costa header.

West Ham offered little by way of a reply and went 2-0 down in the 62nd minute when Costa shot the ball home.

The Hammers then began to offer more of an attacking threat and put together a number of neat moves, though they were unable to pull a goal back.

And Allardyce could have little complaint about the result.

"We did not do enough to affect them today because of the quality they have", the West Ham manager told Sky Sports.

"I said if we were going to get anything against Chelsea you have to play your best, but even then that might not be good enough.

"We created some very good chances late on and did not give up.

"The best part of our game came from when we went 2-0 down.

"I am not saying we deserved anything, Chelsea were the better team, but when we carved out a few chances in the last 20 minutes, you stick one in and it can make things a bit nervous for them."
