Jose Mourinho has praised his Chelsea side after they put West Ham to the sword 2-0 at Stamford Bridge today to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table, even if only temporarily.

Chelsea quickly took control of the Boxing Day encounter and got their reward in the 31st minute, when skipper John Terry turned in a Diego Costa header from close range.

The Blues, who were dominant throughout, had to wait until just after the hour mark to extend their lead however, when Costa rifled a shot home.

West Ham, who headed into the match sitting fourth in the Premier League, had no reply and slipped to defeat.

"We played a very good game against a very difficult opponent. When we scored we had the game always under control", Mourinho told Sky Sports.

"In the last part of the game they had a fantastic action by Morgan Amalfitano, it was a little lucky for us, but I am happy with the way we played against a very difficult defensive side. We coped very well with the direct football and dealt with a difficult player like Andy Carroll."

And Mourinho believes he has found real consistency of performance with his Chelsea side.

"The team is stable.

"The bench is good so when I bring players on they give me what the team needs at that time. I am really happy. We are doing very well."
