Lassana Diarra's agent has cooled talk that his client is set to imminently sign for Inter, while admitting that the Serie A giants are a "great club".

The midfielder, who is a free agent and was linked with joining Celtic last month, is thought to have been put through his medical paces by Inter as they seek to determine his fitness level given he has not played for six months.

Diarra is thought likely to now sign for Inter, but his agent Marijo Knez has played down talk of an imminent deal.

"Right now I can't talk of negotiations, but certainly Inter would be more than an interesting opportunity for him", Knez told Tutto Mercato.

"We're talking about a great club with a great coach", he continued.

"Lass is motivated to return to the pitch and to show all his qualities in a new challenge.

"We will see if destiny will take him to Milan."

Were Diarra to join Inter, he could end up facing Celtic in the Europa League round of 32 stage, a twist given he was strongly linked with the Bhoys last month.
