AC Milan have taken a step towards snapping up Alessio Cerci from Atletico Madrid by taking advantage of their option to sign Fernando Torres from Chelsea.

Torres is on a two-year loan at AC Milan, but Chelsea have confirmed he will depart for the Rossoneri permanently on 5th January.

The Italian giants are then expected to loan Torres to Atletico Madrid, with Cerci heading the other way, also on loan.

Chelsea confirmed in a statement: "Fernando Torres is to join AC Milan on a permanent basis."
