Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is so desperate to keep Lukas Podolski at the club that he has offered Italian giants Inter the chance to sign Yaya Sanogo as an alternative.

Podolski is desperate for regular first team football at the Emirates Stadium, but Wenger has preferred other options so far this term.

Inter will give Podolski the football he craves and are understood to have already reached an agreement with the striker, who is ready to move to Italy.

The Serie A side sent sporting director Piero Ausilio to London yesterday for talks with Arsenal, but the Italian met a Wenger desperate to keep Podolski.

According to Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport, Wenger offered Inter the chance to sign Sanogo on loan as an alternative to Podolski.

However, the Nerazzurri are still set on signing Podolski, feeling that Sanogo would only be a temporary solution and one which will not meet the needs of coach Roberto Mancini in the same way Podolski would.

The German's personal desire now appears key to any move and Wenger will have to work hard to convince him first team chances will still await despite competition from Danny Welbeck, Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud.
