Arjen Robben has revealed that Louis van Gaal does not like leaving players who have impressed in training out of his side.

The Bayern Munich winger has worked closely with Van Gaal, not least at the summer's World Cup when the Netherlands finished third.

For Robben, Van Gaal is an emotional coach who does not like to disappoint players who have given their all in training throughout the week.

And when he has to leave players who have impressed out, he finds the task a tough one, Robben says, in contrast to the majority of managers, who hide their emotions.

"Van Gaal is very emotionally involved as a coach", Robben told the Algemeen Dagblad.

"He finds it very difficult for example to disappoint players.

"When someone trains well and he has to tell them that they won't play, that touches him.

"Since he struggles with that, he displays his emotion to the squad.

"With a lot of other coaches you see that far less, they keep their distance and protect themselves."
