Wolfsburg are set to extend defender Ricardo Rodriguez's contract at the club, warding off interest from elsewhere.

The Switzerland international was linked with Manchester United repeatedly over the summer, while Chelsea have also seen themselves listed as admirers of the Wolfsburg star.

The Bundesliga side are desperate to avoid losing Rodriguez however and are on the brink of signing him to a new contract, according to German magazine Kicker.

Rodriguez's new contract would extend his stay at the Volkswagen Arena until the summer of 2019.

It will also contain a release clause of between €25m and €30m.

Wolfsburg snapped up the 22-year-old from Swiss Super League side FC Zurich in 2012 and he wasted little time impressing in Germany.

The Wolves currently sit second in the Bundesliga standings and on course to qualify for the Champions League.
