Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo believes Fernando Torres’ return to the club is good news for world football.

After a spending a frustrating half-a-season at AC Milan, Atletico Madrid have announced that the Spaniard will rejoin the club next month.

Torres made a name for himself at Atletico Madrid before joining Liverpool in the summer of 2007, but three clubs and two countries later, the boyhood Los Colchoneros fan is set to return to the Vicente Calderon.

Cerezo confirmed that Torres will be unveiled as an Atletico Madrid player again next month and admits that the negotiations with Milan were not a cakewalk for the club.

He also added that the Spaniard’s return to the Vicente Calderon is not only good news for the club, but also for world football.

“The deal is closed and he will be presented on 4th January”, Cerezo told Radio Nacional de Espana.

“For the world of football and especially Atletico Madrid, Torres’ return is good news.

“There were technical problems in the negotiation, it was not a simple deal.

“The arrival of Torres strengthens our attack because [Mario] Mandzukic is not going anywhere.”
