Highly-rated young Heerenveen defender Joost van Aken admits that he loved watching Jan Vertonghen play at Ajax, but has cast doubt on his ability to follow in the Belgian's footsteps by moving to England.

Van Aken is a Netherlands Under-21 international and has had his potential noted by a number of top clubs.

There is already speculation over the 20-year-old moving to a bigger league and Van Aken has given thought to where he might fit in, with the youngster expressing concerns over the physical nature of England's top flight.

The centre-back told Voetbal International: "I'm a defender, but there was a time when I didn't enjoy watching defenders.

"Sergio Ramos is one of my idols. And when he played for Ajax, I loved to watch Jan Vertonghen.

"Playing for the Dutch national team is my dream", the 20-year-old continued, before pinpointing Germany and Spain as his most likely destinations.

"I also want to play in a beautiful foreign league in the future.

"The Bundesliga and La Liga are my favourites. In England I wouldn't fit in as well because of the physical nature of the game."
