Real Madrid are on the brink of signing Martin Odegaard after flying him to the Spanish capital in a private jet on Tuesday evening.

Odegaard is wanted by a who's who of Europe's elite clubs, with Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Liverpool, Celtic, Juventus, Manchester United, Arsenal and Barcelona all captivated by his talent.

But it is Real Madrid who are set to win the race for the 16-year-old Norwegian wonderkid, who last year became the youngest ever player to turn out in a European Championship qualifier.

According to Norwegian daily VG, on Tuesday evening Odegaard flew with his father and agent to Madrid in a private jet.

He is expected to quickly commit to the European champions, where will take the number 16 shirt and be handed a spot in the club's senior squad.

Should Odegaard sign for Real Madrid it would mean disappointment for a number of sides who have put genuine effort into courting him.

Odegaard has spent time training at a number of clubs, including Liverpool, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.

However, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has always been determined his side would not miss out on the young midfielder.
