Former Tottenham Hotspur forward Clive Allen has advised Harry Kane to aim for Alan Shearer’s Premier League goalscoring record.

Kane has been in scintillating form for Spurs this season and has already scored 17 goals in all competitions for the club.

He scored a brace in Tottenham’s 5-3 win over Chelsea at home last week and the striker is already being tipped for greater things at White Hart Lane.

Allen is a fan of the new Tottenham striking sensation and feels Kane is destined to achieve big things in the future.

Shearer is the Premier League’s highest goalscorer with 260 strikes to his name and the former Spurs man believes the 21-year-old should aim to break the former England captain’s record.

“I am sure you look at players from the past who do what you do and who you would like to emulate”, Allen told BBC Radio 5 live.

“So, I have no doubt Harry has got his eye on it and he is being compared to players like Alan Shearer at the moment.

“He is the best goalscorer the Premier League has seen and his record is there to be shot at,

“‘Why not have a go for it Harry’, that is what I would say to him.”

Allen holds the record for scoring the most number of goals in a season for Tottenham with 49 strikes in all competitions in the 1986/87 campaign.

“I was fortunate to break the great Jimmy Greaves’ goalscoring record at Spurs, but people said that it would never be done, so sky is the limit for the young man.”
