Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew has reflected upon his side's 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur today, but stated his belief that the team are too honest.

Pardew left his role as Newcastle United manager to take charge at Selhurst Park and saw his side come from behind to see off Spurs this evening, goals from Dwight Gayle (penalty) and Jason Puncheon giving the Eagles all three points.

The new Palace manager, in his first game in charge of the club, praised the professionalism he has found at Selhurst Park and contrasted it with the scene at Newcastle, where he was frequently having to fine players.

"I only have one criticism of them, which is a strange criticism for a manager to make – they're too honest", he told Sky Sports.

"And they're too straight. You can't win Premier League games if you're going to be super disciplined and super straight. You have to take chances, you have to take risks, you have to have a couple of maverick players – the player I brought on in the second half the staff were telling me he's a complete maverick.

"But I think that's what the team needs", Pardew continued.

"Fantastic professionals here. I haven't had one fine this week and I'm finding that very unusual as a Newcastle manager because we used to fine players every 42 minutes I think we timed it at.

"But I'm not being disrespectful to Newcastle players, it's just a different ‎kind of set-up. I just want to free this team up a bit and if we do that they can play like they did in the last 20 minutes", he added.
