Premier League side Aston Villa have confirmed that they have signed Valencia playmaker Carles Gil on a four-and-a-half-year deal.

The Spanish Under-21 international is reported to have cost the Villans a fee in the region of £3.2m. The deal though is still subject to international clearance.

The 22-year-old, a product of the Valencia youth system, made his senior debut for the club's B team as a 17-year-old in 2009.

He was eventually loaned out to Elche for two seasons before returning to the Mestalla Stadium last year.

"We've been on the lookout for a creative player and he will certainly bring that extra element to the side", manager Paul Lambert told his club's official site.

"He's only 22 years of age but he will come here and give us something I don't think we have at the moment. He can play either role, coming in off the sides or playing in behind as well.

"He can create chances and get those chances put away. He has a lot to offer and I know we can get the best out of him."

The Spaniard on his part spoke about his excitement to play for the Claret and Blue.

"Once I knew that this club was interested in me I wanted to join.

"I am really looking forward to playing here and showing the fans what I can do."
