Gonzalo Higuain is not heading to Liverpool, his brother has insisted, playing down talk of a switch to the Premier League giants.

The Argentine striker, who currently turns out for Serie A side Napoli, has been linked with heading to Liverpool.

Higuain picked Napoli ahead of Arsenal in the summer of 2013 and wasted no time in replicating his prolific Real Madrid goalscoring form in Italy.

Asked about links with Liverpool, his brother Nicolas was at pains to insist he would not do a deal behind Napoli's back and told Radio CRC: "I don't speak English only Italian, French and Spanish.

"First of all, I have not spoken to any club because they have not contacted me and secondly, it would be disrespectful to Napoli.

"[Napoli president Aurelio] De Laurentiis is a great person, a man of honour and I couldn't behave incorrectly."

And Nicolas says that he is confident Napoli can achieve a top three finish in Serie A, providing his brother with Champions League football for next term.

Only after the end of the campaign will the striker look at his future.

"We're not thinking about leaving Napoli.

"I'm confident that the team can finish third, then we'll see about Gonzalo's future.

"I haven't spoken with any team.

"Gonzalo is calm, he has a contract with Napoli and he's not planning to leave because he's happy."

Higuain's contract with the Serie A side runs until the summer of 2018. He has bagged nine goals in 18 Serie A games so far this term, as Napoli sit fourth in the Italian top flight.
