Portuguese giants Benfica are planning a loan swoop for Arsenal attacker Joel Campbell this month.

A forward by trade, he had an impressive World Cup with Costa Rica last summer, but has seen very little football at Arsenal this season and is believed to be looking for more first team opportunities.

Inter were linked with a loan move for Campbell, but after securing Lukas Podolski from the Gunners and Xherdan Shaqiri from Bayern Munich, it is highly unlikely that the club will want to sign one more attacking player this winter.

Real Sociedad boss David Moyes is also interested in signing the Costa Rican and has been pushing the club to agree a loan deal with the north London outfit for the 22-year-old.

And now according to Italian broadcaster Sport Mediaset, Benfica have thrown their hat into the ring for the signature of Campbell.

The Portuguese giants are set to approach Arsenal with a loan offer for the winger and are eager to take the Costa Rican to the Estadio da Luz this month.

Arsene Wenger has already allowed Podolski to leave the club this winter and given his team’s injury record, it remains to be seen whether he is ready to lose another forward thinking player in the transfer window.
