Brendan Rodgers insists Liverpool are confident ahead of the first leg of their League Cup semi-final against Chelsea tomorrow, pointing out the Blues' indifferent form of late.

Though Chelsea sit top of the Premier League table and thrashed Swansea City 5-0 at the weekend, they have been shown to have an Achilles heel with recent defeats and draws.

And as a result Rodgers says his Liverpool side will have no fear when they take on the Blues at Anfield in the first leg, though the Northern Irishman mistakenly labelled Jose Mourinho's men as having lost two and drawn two of their last six matches.

"The last six games, I think they've won two, drawn two and lost two [sic], so we look at it as an opportunity at home", he told a press conference.

"But if we don't win the game then we will still look ahead to Stamford Bridge.

"It's going to be a good test for us", he continued.

The Liverpool manager says he has also told his players that they do not need to win the tie in the first leg, with a further game awaiting, which changes the dynamics of tomorrow's clash.

"We have spoken about the fact it is a different type of game. You don't need to open up too much. We want to win, but the tie won't be won or lost in the first game.

"We know we'll have to deal with pressure at moments in the game, but the most important thing is to make sure we are in a good position for the second leg."

Liverpool warmed up for their semi-final clash by beating Aston Villa 2-0 at Villa Park at the weekend.
