Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is ready to rekindle his interest in FC Porto’s Dutch international defender Bruno Martins Indi this month.

The 22-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United in the summer before he eventually joined Porto from Feyenoord.

Martins Indi has quickly established himself as one of the mainstays of the Porto squad and has already made 24 appearances in all competitions for the club this season.

Van Gaal is desperate to land a defender this month to strengthen his ailing Manchester United rearguard and is aware of Martins Indi’s strengths and weaknesses from his time with the Dutch national team.

Though he just arrived at Porto around six months ago, according to Portuguese daily Record, Manchester United are ready to make a move for the Dutch defender in the winter transfer window.

The Manchester United manager wants to bring in a known entity at Old Trafford this month and though Martins Indi is still young, Van Gaal feels he will shore up their defence for the second half of their campaign.

Martins Indi was handed his international debut by Van Gaal and if Manchester United can agree a deal with a reluctant Porto, then the player is believed to be keen on reuniting with his old Dutch master at Old Trafford.
