MLS outfit Toronto FC have announced the signing of Italian international and Juventus forward Sebastian Giovinco.

The 27-year-old attacker will link up with Jozy Altidore, who joined the club last week as part of the deal that saw Jermain Defoe join Sunderland.

He has made 131 appearances for the Italian champions, but has become a fringe player in recent months, with only eleven appearances in all competitions this season for the club.

Giovinco is not immediately moving to the United States and will only join the team after the end of the current Serie A campaign.

Toronto are naturally excited about signing the Italian international and claimed that the player has refused offers from major clubs to join the MLS outfit.

“We are beyond excited to add a player of Sebastian Giovinco’s calibre”, club general manager Tim Bezbatchenko said in a press conference.

“[Giovinco] chose TFC and MLS above many other international clubs.”
