Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick concedes that his side had a tough evening tonight after drawing 0-0 with League Two outfit Cambridge United in the FA Cup.

At once Cambridge presented Manchester United with a stern test, keeping their shape well and frustrating the Premier League outfit.

It was 0-0 at half time, with Cambridge having enjoyed the better chance, from a set piece, while Manchester United struggled to break down their lower league opponents.

Manchester United continued to dominate possession in the second half, but struggled to carve open the League Two side, who continued to give the Red Devils scares from set pieces.

In injury time Cambridge survived a scramble, with efforts from both Robin van Persie and Angel di Maria saved.

It ended 0-0, with a replay being needed at Old Trafford.

For Carrick, credit had to go to Cambridge, who had given the Red Devils a tough night at the Abbey Stadium and were good value for their draw.

"We came here to win and we wanted to win and get into the next round", he told the BBC.

"The first half was very scrappy and tough. We weren't at our best. Fair play, Cambridge made it difficult for us.

"In the second half we were a lot better, we had some chances and on another day we could have won.

"They defended their box really well and had a lot of numbers in there. You have to give Cambridge credit", Carrick added.
