Cruzeiro vice-president Marcio Rodrigues has revealed that they have agreed a deal to sell Arsenal target Lucas Silva to Real Madrid.

It emerged yesterday that Los Blancos are close to reaching an agreement for the Brazilian midfielder after re-establishing contacts with Cruzeiro earlier this week.

Now the club vice-president said that the deal has been concluded and a formal announcement will be made imminently.

Rodrigues also indicated that the player’s agent played a decisive role in the 21-year-old joining Real Madrid, as the salary on offer is too much for the midfielder to refuse.

“There was nothing else we could do”, the Cruzeiro vice-president told ESPN Brasil.

“There comes a time when the player wants to leave because their agent is putting on pressure with the high salaries they're paid [in] Europe.”

After completing the formalities, the midfielder is expected sign a six-year contract with Real Madrid worth €13m to €15m, and lands at the club hot on the heels of Martin Odegaard, presented yesterday.
