Louis van Gaal admits he is angry at his Manchester United side's performance in their 0-0 draw against Cambridge United at the Abbey Stadium in the FA Cup this evening.

Cambridge at once frustrated Manchester United, dropping deep, keeping their shape and pouncing on the Red Devils when they moved into threatening areas.

The first half ended 0-0, but despite Manchester United dominating possession, it was Cambridge who enjoyed the best chance of the half, from a set piece.

The second half followed much the same pattern, although Manchester United were slicker in their play, and Cambridge continued to give their glamorous visitors scares from set pieces.

A late injury time scramble saw Cambridge's goalkeeper save first from Robin van Persie and Angel di Maria, with the hosts surviving.

It ended 0-0 at the Abbey Stadium, with a replay being needed to separate the pair.

Van Gaal was quick to express his anger at his side's performance, feeling they made similar errors to those they made against other lower league opposition in the form of Yeovil Town.

He told the BBC: "Yes of course it is frustrating. We make the same error as against Yeovil Town and against QPR, we did the same playing style more or less in the first half.

"Then I have to be angry again. In the second half we did much better, but OK we are not out of the cup. That is the most important thing. But the atmosphere here, the crowd, was fantastic. You know always in advance that all aspects in a game like this is against you.

"I was angry again but it is part of my job. I want to be very happy at half-time. But OK it was not always the same."

And Van Gaal emphasised just how important the FA Cup is to the Red Devils, with the manager feeling it unlikely his side will be able to win the Premier League this term.

"The FA Cup is very important – it is the most important title for us. To win the Premier League is much more difficult now, so the FA Cup is our objective also."
