Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has expressed his happiness with the progress of young centre-back Kurt Zouma.

The French international was signed from Saint-Etienne by Chelsea during last year’s winter transfer window, but was loaned back to the Ligue 1 outfit to finish the season. He arrived at Stamford Bridge at the start of the current season and has made four Premier League appearances thus far.

The defender has also made his presence felt higher up the pitch by grabbing two goals from his 11 appearances in all competitions, making a splash when called upon.

Mourinho is hugely impressed with the progress of his young starlet and believes Zouma has a bright future ahead of him, feeling choosing not to loan him out again was the right decision.

“We bought a talent but that talent was far from ready and at the beginning of the season people were thinking it would be better for him to go somewhere [on loan] and play”, Mourinho said at a press conference this afternoon.

However, the Portuguese manager thinks his decision to keep Zouma at Chelsea is paying dividends.

“But we thought it was better for him to stay and learn here in this habitat where for sure he will be a player for many years. We are very happy with him.”

Zouma is expected to start tomorrow when Chelsea take on Bradford in their fourth round FA Cup tie at Stamford Bridge.
