Roma have been taken aback by Tottenham Hotspur’s asking price of €30m for Hugo Lloris after they enquired about the availability of the Frenchman.

The Italian giants are looking to sign a top class goalkeeper to boost their options and have been scouring the transfer market for potential targets.

The Giallorossi zeroed in on Tottenham goalkeeper Lloris and wanted to take him to the Stadio Olimpico in the summer.

They also made an initial enquiry with Tottenham about the availability of the Frenchman to lay the ground for a bid, but were taken aback by the price quoted for Lloris.

According to Italian daily Corriere dello Sport, Spurs have asked for a transfer fee of €30m to sanction Lloris’ sale at the end of the season.

Roma are not in a financial position to afford Lloris and were prepared to pay around €20m plus performance based bonuses for the French international.

Lloris is crucial to Tottenham’s plans for the future and the club have quoted such a large fee to scare off Roma from making a move for him in the summer.

Roma continue to search the market for a top class custodian and are also tracking Chelsea’s Petr Cech, who lost the race to be the club’s number one goalkeeper to Thibaut Courtois this season.
