Wesley Sneijder has done his bit to try to help Galatasaray beat off competition from Arsenal and Manchester United for Ron Vlaar.

Sneijder's Netherlands team-mate is out of contract at Aston Villa at the end of the season and is expected to quit Villa Park, either this month or in the summer, in search of the next step in his career.

Galatasaray are keen that Vlaar's next step be to the Turk Telekom Arena, but are aware there is fierce competition for the centre-back's signature.

In England, Arsenal and Manchester United have been strongly linked with the Dutchman, while Italian outfit Napoli are also monitoring proceedings.

Galatasaray have put Vlaar top of their list of defensive reinforcements and have roped in Sneijder to help sell the club to his countryman.

Indeed, according to Turkish daily Sabah, Sneijder has given a glowing report of life in Istanbul to Vlaar, speaking positively of the benefits of signing for Galatasaray.

Sneijder himself has come close to leaving Galatasaray this month, with the Dutchman open to heading to link up with Italian champions Juventus.

However, Juventus would not pay a release clause set at €20m in Sneijder's contract.
