Loic Perrin believes there is serious doubt over whether he will leave Saint-Etienne to join Arsenal this month.

The French centre-back has been interesting Arsene Wenger's Arsenal, with contact being made between the Gunners and the player's agent late last year.

Saint-Etienne admitted that they would not be able to stand in Perrin's way if Arsenal made a substantial bid and it appeared the 29-year-old would be heading to north London to play under his countryman.

However, the trail has now gone cold and Perrin has heard nothing new from Arsenal, leading to him to declare his departure to be in jeopardy.

"My agent had serious contact with Arsenal before Christmas", Perrin said to Canal +.

"There is no new news since then and my departure is in jeopardy", he added.

Arsenal are thought to be chasing Villarreal defender Gabriel Paulista and it remains to be seen whether they will rekindle their interest in Perrin.

The Frenchman is captain of Saint-Etienne and a product of the club's youth system, having made over 250 appearances for Les Verts since breaking through to the senior side.
