Cagliari coach Gianfranco Zola has refused to be drawn on his side's interest in Sassuolo striker Leonardo Pavoletti.

The Italian hitman has an array of suitors, including English Championship outfit Leeds United. However, it is not clear where Pavoletti will be playing his football after the closure of this month's transfer window.

Zola's Cagliari have been strongly linked with making a move for Pavoletti, with the Rossoblu looking to add extra firepower for the second half of the campaign.

But speaking to Sky Italia after Cagliari beat Pavoletti's Sassuolo 2-1 earlier today, Zola would neither confirm or deny wanting Pavoletti at the club and instead commended the strength Cagliari already have, while promising to assess his options.

"Pavoletti? I do not know whether they [Sassuolo] want to talk to us!" Zola laughed.

"I must say that the players we still have now deserve great attention.

"We will have a think about what we do."

Following their victory over Sassuolo, Cagliari sit one point above the drop zone in Serie A with 19 points from 20 games.

Zola's men are next in action against Atalanta on 31st January before they host title challengers Roma the following weekend.
