New Sunderland signing Jermain Defoe has selected his dream five-a-side team, relying heavily on players with a connection to one of his former clubs in the shape of Tottenham Hotspur.

Defoe enjoyed two spells at White Hart Lane, turning out for Spurs between 2004 and 2008 and then from 2009 until early last year, when he headed to the MLS to join Toronto FC.

The 32-year-old is now back in England with Sunderland and, asked for his dream five-a-side team, nodded towards current and former Spurs players, while throwing Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard into the mix.

"Goalkeeper? Hugo Lloris. Hugo, for me, is unbelievable", Defoe told Sunderland's in-house TV channel, starting his selection.

"I'd have Ledley King. In fact Ledley King could play at the back on his own because he can do everything. He doesn't even tackle because his positioning is unbelievable, he just reads the game. [He is] strong, quick.

"Steven Gerrard. Good finisher, just hits shots", Defoe continued, moving on to his midfield selections.

"Luka Modric. In my time at Tottenham with Luka in little five-a-sides he was just unbelievable, small, a low centre of gravity, sharp and never really gave the ball away.

"And myself", the striker added. "I'm just going to stand up front, not really move, and just finish it."

Defoe has made two appearances for Sunderland since joining the Black Cats, already turning out against former club Tottenham Hotspur in a 2-1 defeat at White Hart Lane.

The striker will be aiming to get off the mark for his new club this coming weekend when they entertain Burnley at the Stadium of Light.
