Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has revealed that manager Jose Mourinho wants the Blues to play attacking and attractive football.

Fabregas joined Mourinho’s team from Barcelona at the start of the current season and has been one of their standout performers. The Catalan has already assisted a league leading 15 goals along with the two he has scored thus far.

The Portuguese’s teams have a reputation for playing defensive football, where they cede possession of the ball and look to attack on the counter, but Fabregas has said such stereotypes are a thing of the past as they are playing attractive football now.

“Mourinho is asking us to play attractive football. This team aren't about sitting back: we're about attacking and getting on the ball”, Fabregas said in an interview with El Pais.

The 27-year-old drew parallels with the way Mourinho’s and his former manager at Barcelona Pep Guardiola’s teams play.

“They're both winners and they both like playing attractive football, though their working methods aren't exactly the same – they have different ways of going about things”, he concluded.

Chelsea currently sit atop the Premier League with 52 points, five clear of their nearest rivals and defending champions Manchester City.

The Londoners unexpectedly bowed out from the FA Cup following a 4-2 loss to League One outfit Bradford City on Saturday.

Fabregas will look to help them qualify for the League Cup final when they play Liverpool in the second leg of their semi-final tie tomorrow, the encounter being delicately balanced at 1-1.
