Manchester United striker Robin van Persie concedes he does not know whether the club are planning to offer him a fresh contract.

The 31-year-old's current deal at Old Trafford comes to an end in 2016 and Van Persie has been vocal about his desire to continue playing for as many as another six years.

Whether that will be at Old Trafford however remains to be seen and the Dutchman's goal tally has slumped this term, with Van Persie scoring only eight goals so far in the current campaign.

And the Netherlands international cannot say whether a contract extension proposal is on the horizon, telling the BBC: "It is not up to me – for the moment I am staying here for another 18 months.

"That is it really. I can't look into the future.

"I don't know what is going to happen after that. We shall have to wait and see", Van Persie added.

If Van Persie does not sign a new deal then he will have just one year left to run on his Manchester United contract in the summer.

He joined the Red Devils in 2012 for £24m after refusing to sign a contract extension with Arsenal.
