West Ham United defender Carl Jenkinson believes they need to emulate Arsenal’s approach, which enabled their successful FA Cup run last year, in order to win the trophy.

Jenkinson was with Arsenal last year when they defeated Hull City 3-2 in the final at Wembley to secure their 11th FA Cup trophy, although he was left out of the squad by manager Arsene Wenger.

The Englishman has been on loan from the Gunners to West Ham since the start of the current season. He has made 18 Premier League appearances for the Hammers and has played all three of their FA Cup games thus far.

Sam Allardyce’s team defeated League One outfit Bristol City 1-0 in their fourth round FA Cup tie yesterday courtesy of an 81st minute header from Diafra Sakho.

The right-back believes Allardyce’s side need to take one game at a time, an approach that worked wonders for Arsenal last season, in order to prolong their cup run.

"It would be fantastic [to go on a prolonged FA Cup run]. Last year at Arsenal we took it one game at a time and that's what we've got to do here”, Jenkinson told the club site.

"I think we're doing well at that. We're concentrating and taking it game-by-game – we're not getting too carried away whether it be in the league or the cup”, he concluded.

West Ham, who lie seventh in the Premier League, travel to Anfield to take on eighth placed Liverpool in an intriguing clash on Saturday.
