Ahead of their League Cup tie against Liverpool, Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic has said that the best team will prevail over the two legs, striking a confident note for the Blues.

Matic, who joined the Londoners from Portuguese outfit Benfica in January last year, has become one of the most important members of Jose Mourinho’s side and has featured in all but one of their Premier League fixtures.

The Serbia international was a notable absentee from the Blues’ squad, when they surrendered a two-goal lead against Bradford City in their fourth round FA Cup tie to lose 4-2 and bow out of the competition last week.

However, the defensive midfielder was in his customary position when they drew 1-1 in the first leg of their League Cup semi-final tie against Liverpool at Anfield last week.

The 26-year-old feels that they didn’t play badly in the first leg, though he acknowledged they could have done better on certain occasions during the match.

“In the first leg against Liverpool I don’t think we played badly. There were some moments in the game where we could have done a bit better and I’m sure we will do that today”, Matic told the club site.

“We didn’t lose which is the most important thing.”

Matic further added that the team with better quality eventually prevails over two legs and Chelsea are ready to prove their mettle tonight.

“In this situation you always have a second chance. If you have the quality to get to a final you will show it over two legs and we have to do that, to show our quality, today.”

Chelsea will host Liverpool at Stamford Bridge in the second leg of their League Cup semi-final tie this evening.
