Swansea City are in negotiations with Saint-Etienne over a deal to sign former French Under-21 international Franck Tabanou.

Swans boss Garry Monk is keen on bolstering his defensive options for the second half of the season and is scouring the market for defenders as the transfer window nears its end.

The Swansea boss has zeroed in on Saint-Etienne left-back Tabanou and is looking to get a deal done with the French outfit as soon as possible to take the player to the Liberty Stadium.

According to the BBC, Swansea are holding talks with Saint-Etienne and hope to reach an agreement with the club over Tabanou.

The 25-year-old, who has made 69 appearances for the club, is a regular in Christophe Galtier’s Saint-Etienne squad and has played 12 times for France’s Under-21 team.

Though he has so far failed to make the cut for France’s senior team, Tabanou has been a consistent performer for Saint-Etienne in Ligue 1 and the club will be unhappy to lose the player in the middle of the season.

The deal is rumoured to be worth £3m and Monk will hope to reach an agreement before next Monday, when the transfer window shuts down.
