Branislav Ivanovic has expressed his delight after Chelsea squeezed past Liverpool 2-1 on aggregate this evening to book their spot in the League Cup final.

Both teams went at it nip and tuck from the off, Liverpool subjecting Chelsea to a number of nervy moments. But it was the Blues who had the most talked about incident of the first half, with Martin Skrtel appearing to foul Diego Costa in the penalty box.




The referee was not convinced through and waved away Chelsea's appeals.

 


The second half was equally tense and tempers often flared, but there was still no goal and it went to extra time, Thibaut Courtois in outstanding form to keep out Alberto Moreno and Philippe Coutinho.

And Chelsea would win it, with a headed goal from a free kick from Ivanovic in the 94th minute.

The Serbian was delighted after the final whistle and admits that the Chelsea team will watch with interest to see if they are to play Tottenham Hotspur or Sheffield United.

He told Sky Sports: "It was a very hard game. We are very happy we are going to Wembley and waiting for tomorrow's game.

"This is a game where you show the real character of the team and we are very happy."

And Ivanovic saluted the performance, which he feels was exactly what was needed on the night in a tough clash.

"I'm happy with my goal, but I think this game is a real example of how the team has to play and the team wins the game."
