Manchester United youngster Joe Rothwell has joined Championship side Blackpool on a loan deal until the end of the season.

A central midfielder by trade, the 20-year-old has made six appearances for Warren Joyce’s Manchester United Under-21s this season and has been at the club since the age of six.

He was also part of the Manchester United side which reached the Under-21 Premier League final last term, where they lost to Chelsea at Old Trafford.

Blackpool, who are struggling at the foot of the Championship table, were looking to sign a midfielder this month and Rothwell’s signing will give Lee Clark more options to work with for the second half of their campaign.

"Joe is someone we've been monitoring for a while and I'm pleased that a deal has been agreed”, Clark told the Tangerines' official site.

Rothwell is expected to arrive at the club later today ahead of a potential debut against Brighton on Saturday. He joins a side sitting bottom of the Championship table with only 17 points from 27 games and heavily tipped for relegation.
