Sheffield Wednesday boss Stuart Gray has tipped Manchester United youngster Will Keane and Chelsea starlet Lewis Baker to emulate the likes of Ross Barkley and Connor Wickham, both of whom enjoyed successful loan spells with the Owls.

Keane made his debut for the Championship outfit during Tuesday's goalless draw with Birmingham City, though he was substituted after 75 minutes with a facial cut.

But the 54-year-old was more than impressed with what he saw, insisting that Hillsborough will provide Keane with an ideal chance to develop his game.

Grey was also full of praise for Chelsea loanee Baker, who played all 90 minutes and whom he believes is equally talented.

"I thought they did well", Grey told his club's official site.

"Their ball retention was very good, with Will providing a good outlet up top. They are talented players and we are a good club where they can develop their game."

The former Southampton boss went on to refer to Barkley and Wickham, adding that both Keane and Baker have the ability to emulate their talents.

"You only have to look at the likes of Ross Barkley and Connor Wickham and how they progressed in their time with us, so hopefully Will and Lewis will do the same."

Both Barkley and Wickham, former Sheffield Wednesday players, have been key performers for their respective clubs, with Barkley having also represented England in the World Cup.

Wickham played a crucial role in preserving Sunderland's Premier League status last season.
