Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet believes if the Reds continue at the same level of performance as they did in their defeat to Chelsea last night they can achieve the desired results in the Premier League and the FA Cup.

The Reds put up a spirited display in both legs of their League Cup semi-final tie against the Blues, but missed out on a final berth after losing 2-1 on aggregate. A 1-1 draw at Anfield was followed by a 1-0 loss yesterday at Stamford Bridge, which sealed Liverpool’s fate.

Mignolet, who was dropped earlier in the season from Brendan Rodgers’ team in favour of Brad Jones due to indifferent performances, has come back strongly to reclaim his spot in Liverpool’s goal. He stood out with his displays in both legs.

The Belgium international believes that even though the results didn’t go in their favour, the team can be proud of the effort they put in.

“Everybody is disappointed when you go out of a competition that you want to win, and especially with the effort and performances that we put in over the two legs”, he told the club site.

However, he acknowledged that their performance deserved a trip to Wembley.

"We definitely deserved more than we got.”

Liverpool currently sit eighth in the Premier League, and will replay their fourth round FA Cup tie against Bolton Wanderers on 4th February following a scoreless draw on Saturday. And the goalkeeper added that they need to continue their League Cup form.

“But we have to accept it and move on, and make sure that we go again in the other competitions that we're still playing in.”

Liverpool will host West Ham United in their next match in the Premier League on Saturday.
