Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is eyeing an audacious summer swoop for French number one and Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

Wojciech Szczesny’s inconsistent performances between the sticks have already forced Wenger to drop him in favour of summer signing David Ospina this season.

Though the Colombian has given some steady performances, the Arsenal boss knows that he needs a more commanding custodian in his squad if he wants his side to realistically challenge for domestic honours and the Champions League.

According to French sports daily L’Equipe, Wenger is turning his attention towards French number one Lloris and is pondering over making an audacious move for the Tottenham custodian in the summer.

Alongside Manchester United’s David de Gea and Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois, Lloris is considered one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League at the moment, a fact Wenger well appreciates.

He is also the Tottenham vice-captain and the club are expected to resist any move for him this summer, especially if it is their hated rivals Arsenal who try to snare their number one away from White Hart Lane.

The 28-year-old has more than four years left on his contract with Spurs and he currently feels happy and settled at the club.

He is also averse to the idea of making a move next summer, just a year ahead of Euro 2016.

But it is believed Lloris is desperate to play in the Champions League, a competition he hasn’t participated in since leaving Lyon in 2012, and something Arsenal are likely to be able to offer.
